The role

Reporting to the Director of Engineering, this position is responsible for supporting Grid Scale projects in the engineering functions for the project development and the project execution team.

This includes functions from concept design to grid connection applications to attain Grid Connection and to support Grid Compliance during commissioning. Associated functions would include grid connection compliance with AEMO and power systems NSPs and the preparation of technical documentation and schedules to progress Grid Performance Studies and management of connections with respective GPS consultant service providers

Key responsibilities

  • Support power system studies to define the Solar Farm generator performance standards and grid connection requirements
  • Management of grid connection deliverables and scoping of tasks required to be conducted by consultants
  • Review of grid connection deliverables submitted by others such as power system study consultants required to be submitted to CS in a timely manner
  • Liaising with AEMO and Network service providers and other regulatory bodies as required to attend to and resolve enquiries for grid connections
  • Support the local team in project proposals and submissions, including solar and battery energy storage solutions (BESS)
  • Prepare conceptual drawings and specifications including Singe Line Diagrams for grid connection process initiation
  • Use of PSS/E to determine load flow and short circuit anlysis and other energy modelling tools to create an energy model for utility-scale PV systems and integration with other systems such as inverters and BESS
  • Assist in the design of Balance of Systems and BESS energy storage solutions including control systems
  • Assist with the evaluation of existing technical documentation from third parties vendors such as Invertor and FACTS devices suppliers
  • Support the project development team with feasibility studies, due diligence (incl. site visits), financial and cost models and high level design
  • Support project managers in their EPC execution activities
  • Assist the Project Developers during grid-connection applications
  • Review of Grid connection designs submitted by EPC Contractors against scope.
  • Attend construction sites as required for witness testing and commissioning

 

Requirements and benefits

  • Electrical Engineering Degree (Bachelor or Master)
  • Wide knowledge of relevant regulations and standards (e.g., electrical code, building codes, international design standards and AS Standards)
  • Applied knowledge on Transmission Power System engineering and planning
  • Proficiency with AutoCad, PVSYST and InDesign (recommended)
  • Knowledge of Secondary systems including SCADA in substations
  • Advanced knowledge on energy storage solution applications (BSS) and or renewable generation experience Track record of projects is highly desirable
  • PSCAD, PSSE and Powerfactory modelling experience is required
  • Good communication skills (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to read, interpret and create electrical drawings
