The company

Anavo is partnering with a global Engineering company, known for their involvement with major civil infrastructure projects around the world. Being part of a Design Joint Venture (DJV) for one of the most exciting renewable energy projects in Australia currently, they are looking for an experienced Civil/Structural Specialist to join their on-site resident engineering team in South NSW.

The role

As the Lead Civil/Structural Engineering Specialist you will be part of the DJV Resident Engineering Team for a large-scale hydro project in South NSW. The team you are joining will be based on site and will comprise 3 specialists (geologist, civil/structural and electro-mechanical). The DJV scope covers the preliminary, detailed and IFC design of main civil components such as underground power station, hydraulic and access tunnels, vertical shafts as well as roads and other temporary site infrastructure.

The project is expected to run over at least 74 months. You will be working on 2 weeks on 1 week off/ 5 days on 2 days off based out of Cooma, NSW.

Key Responsibilities

  • Attendance of meetings/workshops.
  • Regular site visits to observe construction works and to resolve issues that may arise during construction.
  • Provide response for RFI’s submitted regarding clarification on design.
  • Support the Client in providing response for the NCR’s related to unexpected issues found during execution of the works.
  • Review of Shop drawings and Manufacture drawings to verify design intent for design scope completion – supported by a DJV Home Office Support team.
  • Verification of mark-ups of the IFC design drawings.
  • Technical assistance and monitoring during excavation and construction.
  • Provision of testing and commissioning procedures and assistance during the tests.

Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Civil Engineering;
  • Extensive experience working site-based on large scale infrastructure projects in Australia;
  • Experience in civil/structural design, preferably of large hydraulic structures (mass concrete and reinforced concrete) in Australia or international;
  • Experience on large hydropower projects during design or construction phase is considered highly beneficial;
  • Knowledge of Australian design standards;
  • Exposure to international quality, health, safety and environmental standards;
  • Experience in on-site & lab quality control and assurance of civil construction works (e.g. concrete testing);
  • Experience of site quality management, including inspection & test plans of civil construction works;
  • Relevant training, certification and accreditation in NSW (White Card, Safety certifications for underground works, working at heights, etc)
